Then join us in “Exploring the SOA Exam Pathway,” a free webcast that will provide insights into the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and its unique exam pathway for actuaries in India. The SOA is the world’s largest actuarial organization, with over 32,000 members, and it offers a comprehensive education and research platform that supports actuaries at every stage of their careers.

During this 75-minute webcast, you will learn about recent changes to the SOA exam pathway and how you can join the SOA as an Affiliate member. You will also discover how the SOA exam system compares to the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) exam system and explore a new pilot program that allows exam exemption for specific IAI exams and more accessible exam fee discounts for students in India.

Furthermore, you will hear from an actuary in India who followed the SOA exam pathway and achieved his FSA in 2021 about his experiences with the SOA exams. The webcast will be moderated by Andy Peterson, who will introduce the speakers and provide an introduction to the SOA, including IAI exemptions, fee discounts, and the Affiliate member program.

Andrew Peterson is the Managing Director, International at the Society of Actuaries (SOA) working to implement the SOA’s mission of advancing actuaries as leaders in measuring and managing risk on a global basis. In that capacity he oversees the SOA’s activities outside of North America in advancing the actuarial profession through education and research. Andy works with the Board to establish the SOA’s international strategy and oversees the work of members and staff around the world in implementing that strategy. Prior to taking on this role in mid-2018, Andy served as the Senior Staff Fellow for Retirement where he worked with SOA members to develop and support better retirement systems. Andy received a BS degree in mathematics from Taylor University in 1992. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.

Scott is a Staff Fellow for the Society of Actuaries in education. Scott earned a degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He has more than 25 years of work experience that includes property and casualty insurance pricing, group health benefits pricing, pension consulting, and actuarial evidence. He is also a part-time instructor at the University of Waterloo, teaching property and casualty insurance pricing and reserving since 2009. He is also a co-author of an introductory textbook on property and casualty insurance pricing and reserving.

Geet Maurya, FSA, FRM, brings over 14 years of experience and diverse expertise to the forefront of risk management within the General Insurance (GI) industry. As a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) specializing in GI and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM), he possesses a comprehensive understanding of pricing, reserving, and model validation, applicable across various markets in India and abroad. He is working as Assistant Vice President and Actuary leading the Reserving team at Chubb India.

He is a graduate in Mathematics and Computing, earned at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. This academic rigor, coupled with a keen interest in risk management, led him to pursue actuarial science and financial risk management.

In his role at Chubb India, he guides his team in developing accurate and insightful reserving practices, ensuring financial stability and informed decision-making.
